Google Earth project
Well this was the first project of the semester and I just figured out how to embed it in the blog. Hopefully it works. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think. A write up on this will be forth coming.
Google Earth is amazing in that it gives us a perspective on the world that was previously reserved for pilots and astronaughts. On thing in our lives that I thought deserved a perspective overhaul was our daily commutes. I thought it the perfect candidate because of several factors. First the fact that it is a routine means that it gets put in the back of our minds. A routine gets put into muscle memory and gets done without any thought. Because of this physical imprinting often our minds wonder durning the course of the act such that things going on right in front of our faces get overlook and not processed. This piece takes me and the viewer our of a first person point of view and fixes the viewing into a perspective only possible through Google Earth. After completing this project my eyes were opened to just how long my commute is, how large the SF Penninsula is... and how just how beautiful the landscape of this area is. After making this I experience my commute differently. I look around at my surroundings more. I live out this piece in my head as i bike down the hill on which i live, and i fly home i my minds eye whenever i feel homesick for my family.
